Engage student interest with every lessonIn this section of The 12 Touchstones of Good Teaching, Goodwin and Hubbell discuss the recent push for teachers to raise the bar in an effort to raise student performance (2013, p. 65). The problem with this, however, is that just expecting more does not make students give more or perform better. Goodwin and Hubbell share that "student motivation . . .appears to have as much influence on student success as teaching quality" (2013, p. 66). Teachers must come up with ways to motivate and engage students to meet those higher expectations.
