Key Facets of a Platform for Best Practices with CLD Students
Three different organizations lead the way in developing professional standards for teachers when it comes to meeting the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students. These organizations include The National Board for Professional Teaching Stnadards, The Center for Research on Education, Diversity and Excellence, and Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (Herrera and Murry, 2016). To be certain to meet these standards, teachers should assess themselves and their classrooms. Herrera and Murry outline four fundamentals for best practice with CLD students (as described below) (2016, p. 360).
