Make the most of every minuteTo begin this section of the 12 touchstones, Goodwin and Hubbell discuss time, predominantly the amount spent in the classroom focused on activities not related to learning. In fact, the authors say, "student success can be won or lost in a mere four minutes [referring to an example of a slow starting class]" (2013, p. 129). They continue by discussing the time lost to other tasks such as returning and taking up papers, transitioning between activites, and even listenting to announcements over loudspeakers. Through this section, the authors give ideas for using time wisely and reiterate the concept "that time is one of the most precious-and often squandered-resources at a teacher's disposal" (2013, p. 129).
