Help Students develop deep knowledgeThis section of The 12 Touchstones of Good Teaching addresses the problem of students not remembering a class' content after the class ends. Goodwin and Hubbell cite a study that found "students often forget about half of what they 'learned' when tested on the same content weeks, months, or even years later" (2013, p. 141). The object of teaching should be more than just memorization; teachers must understand their aim should be "to help students develop deep knowledge" (2013, p. 142).
